  • A majority (55%) say there should be requirements to immigrate to America, like being able to speak English and demonstrate financial independence.
    • Four in 10 voters (40%) believe pretty much anyone should be able to immigrate to America, as long as he or she isn't a criminal.
    • More Republicans (76%) than Democrats (33%) say that immigrants to America should have requirements such as speaking English and being financially independent.
  • Two thirds (69%) of voters believe that legal immigration is good, while illegal immigration is bad. This includes strong majorities of Republicans (82%) and Democrats (58%).
    • Another 18% consider legal and illegal immigration good.
    • Just 10% of voters consider legal (and illegal) immigration bad.
    • The total number of voters saying legal immigration is good for the United States (88%) has been steady for decades.
  • This data was collected before the shooting of Alex Pretti.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, January 21-22, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
