Continuing a long established theme of distrust in the federal government, 64% of voters believe it should be illegal for Members of Congress to buy and sell stocks and bonds while they are in office. That view is shared by 70% of men and 59% of women. Just 22% of all voters believe Members of Congress should be allowed to buy and sell stocks while in office.

Among those who talk politics on a daily basis, 76% believe such stock trading should be banned.

The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen April 16, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
