  • A majority (60%) of registered voters say that churches and charitable organizations do a better job of meeting the needs of vulnerable and marginalized people in our society.
    • Eighteen percent (18%) disagree and believe the government does a better job.
    • Democrats (65%) and Republicans (59%) largely agree that churches and charitable organizations do a better job.
    • A larger number of traditional Democrats (71%) say churches and charitable organizations do better.
  • Similarly, 60% say that churches and charitable organizations spend money more efficiently than the government.
    • Just 22% say the government spends money more efficiently.
    • Democrats (63%) and Republicans (59%) agree that churches and charitable organizations spend more efficiently.
    • Again, more traditional Democrats (77%) say churches and charitable organizations are more efficient with funds.
  • If given a choice, 61% say they would rather give money directly to non-profit organizations than to the government in taxes to support social programs.
    • Just 22% say they'd rather give to the government.
    • Democrats and Republicans align with these numbers.
    • Views of younger voters (ages 18-34) are slightly different from most others. Although 52% say they'd rather give to non-profits, 33% say they'd rather give to the government.
    • Hispanic voters' views are different as well with 52% saying they'd rather give to non-profits, but 40% saying they'd rather give to the government.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, May 4-5, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
