  • About three quarters (73%) of voters say that legal immigration is good for the United States, but illegal immigration is bad.
    • Large majorities of both parties agree on this topic, including 83% of Republicans and 63% of Democrats.
    • This has been the mainstream view for decades.
    • Another 16% of voters say that both legal and illegal immigration are good.
    • Only 9% say that all immigration is bad for the U.S.
  • H-1B visas are designed for foreign workers in specialist occupations. Opinion is split on why companies use them.
  • Only 16% of voters say that Americans are unwilling to do IT and computer-related jobs, while 71% disagree.
    • However, almost a third (30%) of voters in high-density areas say that Americans are unwilling to do IT and computer-related jobs.
  • Thirty-six percent (36%) say U.S. companies mostly use H-1B visas to bring in foreign workers because they can't find enough American workers to do these jobs.
    • A third (34%) disagree, while 31% are Not Sure.
    • By a 44% to 29% margin, Democrats believe U.S. companies use H-1B workers because they can't find enough American workers. 
    • Just 29% of Republicans agree, while 36% disagree.
    • Postgraduates (47%) and those making over $150K per year (52%) are the most likely to say U.S. companies use H-1B visas because of a scarcity of American workers.
  • However, a majority 54% of voters think U.S. companies mostly use H-1B visas to bring in foreign workers because they are willing to work for less than American workers.
    • Only 23% disagree.
    • A larger percentage (63%) of voters in high-density areas say U.S. companies bring in foreign workers because they will work for less.
  • Four in 10 (41%) say that U.S. employers benefit most from H-1B workers.
    • Republicans and Democrats are closely aligned with 42% (R's) and 39% (D's) saying that U.S. employers benefit most.
  • Another 28% say that the foreign workers themselves benefit the most from H-1B visas, while 21% of voters say that all Americans benefit from H-1B workers.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, October 22, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
