Seventy percent (70%) of voters favor balancing the federal budget within 10 years, while just 11% are opposed.

However, 56% are opposed to raising taxes in order to balance the budget.

By a two-to-one margin (48% to 24%), voters believe it is possible to balance the budget by simply slowing the growth of federal spending over time. 

A majority (52%) say it is possible to balance the budget and cut taxes.


The most recent data cited is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen May 5-6, 2025. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
