  • Voters are split on President Trump's policy to cut all funding to sanctuary cities and states beginning February 1.
    • Forty-eight percent (48%) at least Somewhat Favor the policy. Over one quarter (27%) Strongly Favor it.
    • Nearly the same number (45%) of voters oppose the policy of cutting all funding; this includes 32% who Strongly Oppose.
    • Most Republicans (79%) favor the policy, with 49% Strongly favoring.
    • Most Democrats (77%) oppose the policy, with 61% Strongly opposing.
    • Voters in densely populated areas oppose the policy by a 60% to 33% margin.
  • If funding is cut, 55% say the cuts should not include money for programs such as Medicaid and food stamps.
    • Only 33% say Medicaid and food stamps should be cut in sanctuary cities and states.
    • Thirteen percent (13%) are Not Sure.
    • Almost half (48%) of Republicans say money for these programs should be cut, 36% say the programs should not be cut, and 16% are Not Sure.
    • By a 76% to 15% margin, Democrats say money should not be cut for programs like Medicaid and food stamps.
    • Most voters in densely populated areas (77%) say the programs should not be cut.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, January 14-15, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
