Voters are evenly divided between those who say business in their areas are hiring (29%) and laying off (28%).
- That's a slight improvement from earlier in the year and from last fall. However, that perception stands in sharp contrast to other trends highlighted in the survey results.
Forty-seven percent (47%) say this is a good time to be looking for a job
- Those numbers are essentially unchanged from two months ago, but much more pessimistic compared to last September, when 65% said it was a good time to be looking for a job.
Sixty-one percent (61%) say it is difficult for someone who has been laid off to find a good job.
- This is also essentially unchanged from two months ago ago, but much more pessimistic last September, when just 45% said it was difficult.
