  • Nearly half of voters (49%) at least Somewhat Approve of sending U.S. troops and equipment into Mexico to prevent drug cartels from entering the U.S. and smuggling drugs into America.
    • This is down from 60% who said the same in May of 2025, and in line with the 51% who said the same in 2024.
    • Slightly fewer voters (45%) oppose sending troops into Mexico.
    • These totals include 22% who Strongly Favor the idea, and 25% who Strongly Oppose it.
    • Two thirds (67%) of Republicans favor sending troops into Mexico, compared to one third (34%) of Democrats.
  • While sending troops INTO Mexico is controversial among voters, sending troops TO the border to prevent drug cartels from entering the U.S. is not.
    • Two thirds (66%) of voters at least Somewhat Approve of this course of action, and just 29% oppose it.
    • These numbers include 33% who Strongly Favor it, and just 14% who Strongly Oppose it.
    • At least 60% of voters have at least Somewhat Favored this course of action since 2021.
    • Nine in 10 Republicans (89%) support sending troops to the border.
    • Democrats are divided: 47% favor it, and 48% oppose it.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, February 25-26, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
