  • If someone moves to the United States and wants to become a United States citizen, 51% say that person should be allowed to remain a citizen of his or her home country as well.
    • Just under 1 in 3 voters (31%) say the person should be required to give up citizenship in any other country.
    • By a 63% to 20% margin, Democrats say the person should be allowed to remain a citizen of his or her home country.
    • Republicans are divided: 44% say the person should be required to give up citizenship in any other country, and 41% say dual citizenship should be allowed.
    • A large majority (71%) of younger voters (ages 18-34) say the person should be allowed to remain a citizen of their home country.
    • Similarly, 76% of voters who believe both legal and illegal immigration are good also say dual citizenship is acceptable.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, December 8-9, 2025. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
