  • On the tragedy of the Minnesota shooting, voters are seeing what they want to see: 44% blame the ICE officer, and 43% blame the woman who was shot.
    • Unsurprisingly, 68% of Republicans blame the woman, while 71% of Democrats disagree and blame the ICE officer.
  • Among those who support open borders, 78% blame the ICE agent.
    • Among those who say all immigration (legal and illegal) is bad, two thirds (65%) blame the woman.
    • Among those who say legal immigration is good, but illegal is bad, 50% blame the woman, while 39% blame the ICE agent.
    • A majority (56%) of voters making more than $150,000 per year blame the woman, while all other measured income brackets blame the ICE agent.
  • Though opinion is divided on who to blame, voters agree that politicans added to the sense of fear and panic, rather than addressing voters' concerns.
    • Two thirds (64%) say politicians added to the panic, while just 22% take the opposite view.
    • Both parties agree on this point.
  • Finally, 39% report following this story Very Closely, which is an incredibly high number.
    • For comparison, just 22% said they were following the news of the Epstein files Very Closely.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, January 11-12, 2026. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
