  • Two thirds (67%) of voters say that if the federal government fails to defend the border, states have a right to defend their own borders.
    • Just 22% disagree.
  • In 2024, the state of Texas took action to stop illegal immigrants from crossing the border and entering Texas. The Biden Administration said Texas must stop those efforts because only the federal government is responsible for immigration.
    • Sixty-three percent (63%) said Texas should be allowed to act to stop illegal immigrants from entering their state.
    • Only 25% disagreed.
    • By a margin of 88% to 6%, Republicans overwhelmingly agreed that Texas should be allowed to stop illegal immigration to their state.
    • Democrats were more divided with a plurality (47%) saying Texas should not be allowed to stop the illegal immigrants, and 37% saying Texas should be able to stop the illegal immigration.


This data is from a Napolitan News Service survey of 1,000 Registered Voters conducted online by Scott Rasmussen, February 5-6, 2024. RMG Research, Inc., conducted the field work for the survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
